NCEP Wind Data
The National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) produces
regular weather forecasts as well as reanalysis of older data to
generate consistent meteorological information. These files
represent 10-m zonal and meridional winds for 2000 and 2001.
Winds for other years (as well as documentation and other NCEP data)
are available from the NOAA's Climate Diagnostics Center: http://www.cdc.noaa.gov/cdc/reanalysis/reanalysis.shtml
Since the annual wind files are big, here are smaller versions with just
Northern Hemisphere winds between 0 and 60 N. These files were created
using the nco function ncks:
ncks -d lat,0.,60. vwnd.10m.gauss.2000.nc vwnd.10m.gauss.2000.nh.nc
