SIO 119: Physics and Chemistry of the Ocean

TIDE POOL FIELD TRIP: 31 January 2014

For the second year, we took a class field trip to the the tide pools located between Scripps Pier and Blacks Beach to examine how chemical and physical properties of a tide pool evolve during the time that it is isolated from the open ocean. class picture

tide pool sampling This year we chose 4 tide pools to sample, and we also used a plastic bin to create an artificial, fully isolated tide pool.

SIO grad student Greg Sinnett helped set up the TidBits to measure air and water temperature. tide pool sampling
