Things to do nearby Photos
Most
wedding-related events will be in or near Arnold, CA. Arnold is in the
Central-California Sierras:
If
you're coming from far away, you have a couple of choices of
airport. The closest airport (2 hour drive) is Sacramento.
However, if
it's
easier for you to get a direct flight to the Bay Area (San Francisco or
Oakland), that also works (3 hour drive).
If you would like to share a rental car with other wedding guests, let
us know (soon!) and we'll try to put appropriate people in touch with
each other.
Driving time is 9-10 hours from San Diego
(Directions
are also printed in a handy-to-print-and-take-with-you pdf file, click here)
To
Arnold:
From Oakland
Airport:
Follow signs to I-880 south.
Take I-238 to I-580 East, go about 30 miles. Take I-205 East
towards Tracy/Stockton. Merge onto I-5 North. Almost immediately take
Hwy 120 East towards Oakdale. Go a few miles then get on
Hwy 99 North. Go about 10 miles, then take Hwy 4 East (Farmington
Road). Stay on Hwy 4 for a long time (1.5 hours). Note that
when you go through Angels Camp Hwy 4 makes a jag right, goes along a
cute main street, and then turns left at the end of town. Hwy 4
continues to wind up the hill and eventually gets to Arnold.
From
San Francisco Airport:
Take Hwy 101 South, go about 7
miles. Take the Hwy 92 exit towards Hayward and cross over San
Francisco Bay. On the other side, get on I-880 North towards
Oakland. After a few miles take I-238 towards I-580 and follow the rest
of the Oakland directions.
From
Sacramento Airport:
Take I-5 south. Go 10 miles.
Take the Hwy 50 exit and go east a short distance. Get on Hwy 99
South. Near or just past downtown Stockton, take Hwy 4 East and follow
the rest of the Oakland directions.
From
Southern California:
Take I-5 north many hours.
Take Hwy 120 East in Manteca and follow Oakland directions from there.
Once
in Arnold:
To Independence
Hall (Welcome
Dinner and Ceremony):
From Hwy 4 turn north on Blagen
road (left if you’re heading uphill), in the heart of ‘downtown’
Arnold, near the Ace Hardware. 1445 Blagen Rd.
To
Reception (Sequoia Woods Country Club):
From Hwy 4, drive a couple miles
north (uphill) out of downtown. Before you get to Big Trees State Park,
make a right (south) on Moran Rd into the Blue Lake Springs
neighbourhood. Follow signs for Sequoia Woods Country Club.
After going downhill about a mile on Moran Rd, make a sharp left onto
Blue Lake Springs Dr. At the fork in the road, bear right onto
Meadow Dr. Make your first right onto Cypress Point Dr. The
clubhouse is on your right. 1000 Cypress Point Dr. Parking across
the street.
To
Geodesic Dome (Sat. brunch, New Year's Eve party):
Follow directions to Country
Club. From the clubhouse, keep going on Cypress Point Dr.
After maybe 1/2 mile the road forks. Take the left fork onto
Medinah Dr. Almost immediately make a right onto Wawona
Way. It’s a big dome, so should be easy to spot. We'll be
there all weekend. Drop by anytime. 1678 Wawona Way.

There are a number of possibilities for local lodging (house rental,
motel, hotel, bed and breakfast, ski lodge, etc.) detailed
below. The most important thing to know is that this is a very
popular area for winter vacationers, especially around New Year's, and
many of the places below fill up FAST. Thus, if you think you'll
be able to make it, we suggest making a reservation as early as
possible. However, some places may not yet be taking reservations for
December.

From December 29 to January 4, we will be staying at a geodesic
dome on Wawona Way in the Blue Lake Springs neighbourhood
within walking distance of the Sequoia Woods Country Club. Several activities (brunch on
Saturday December
30th, New Year's Eve party on Sunday December 31st) will be held at the
geodesic dome.
There are numerous houses for rent in the Arnold area, for as short a
period as two nights and can be very reasonably priced for
groups. We expect that a number of guests
will be renting houses in groups of family or friends in the Blue Lake
Springs neighbourhood.
If you're interested in sharing a house with other folks and would like
help finding housemates, email us and we'll hook you up.
